CAMPIONATI ITALIANI SINGOLO: VINCONO MATTIA PINELLI E ELISA BRUNETTI
Che potessero esserci delle sorprese era nell’aria ma nessuno, forse, se ne sarebbe immaginate così tante: nel maschile vince il giovane dell’Appaloosa Mattia Pinelli che dopo aver conquistato due semifinali nelle Gare Ufficiali e ad aver mosso i primi passi nel PDC Development Tour, riesce a dare la zampata giusta nel torneo più importante dell’anno che lo proietta, inevitabilmente, a traguardi sempre più importanti.
Anche nel torneo femminile a sbaragliare il campo è l’umbra del DC Domus Dardi Elisa Brunetti che dopo la finale raggiunta nel 2014 e nel 2016 e il terzo posto conquistato l’anno scorso, riesce a coronare il sogno di diventare campionessa italiana.
Il torneo maschile con 287 iscritti, a dimostrazione della qualità in campo, vede subito eliminazioni eccellenti nelle fasi preliminari come quella degli emiliani Di Micco e Catallo (seppur quest’ultimo al rientro dopo un lungo stop), del marchigiano Campetella, del lombardo Carideo e del ligure Sandroni.
Ma le vere sorprese arrivano nei sessantaquattresimi che vedono sconfitti tre veri pretendenti al titolo: infatti Daniele Sergi (tds 1) deve arrendersi al veneto Alessio Passadore, Massimetto Rigotti (tds 2) cede il passo all’altro veneto Manuel Faggian e Daniele Petri (tds 4) non molto fortunato a scontrarsi così presto contro l’ex campione italiano Danilo Vigato, una delle tante mine vaganti unseeded del torneo, che comunque fa suo l’incontro per 4-1 con una grossa prestazione.
Paradossalmente i trentaduesimi vedono l’eliminazione di una sola testa di serie ma è una di quelle che conta; il turno prevede infatti una sfida, tanto prematura quanto spettacolare tra il campione italiano uscente, Stefano Tomassetti (tds 11) e il più forte unseeded del torneo, Andrea Farra, che riesce a detronizzare l’abruzzese con un incertissimo 4-3; altri due giocatori si mettono in mostra: il campione regionale lombardo Paolo Trutalli che batte Simone Visentin e che batterà anche Jojo Tamares (tds 14) e lo stesso Vigato conquistando un ottimo quinto posto finale, e il piemontese Andrea Foconetti, anche lui al rientro dopo un periodo di stop, che supera il temibile Alex de Giorgi e, in successione, anche Gianluca Plado, prima di fermarsi davanti a Marco Apollonio (tds 5) negli ottavi.
Nella parte alta del tabellone, oltre ad Apollonio, conquistano i quarti Salvo Mantarro, finalmente tornato ai livelli che merita, e Mattia Pinelli (tds 8) molto determinato che supera negli ottavi il marchigiano Giacomo Baroni, autore di un buon torneo e della fuoriuscita di Milo Cutini (tds 9) nel turno precedente; arriva poi ai quarti un eccellente Pierre Cavaliere (tds 13) bravo a superare uno degli uomini più in forma del momento, l’emiliano Marcus Brambati (tds 3).
Nella parte bassa, invece, oltre a Trutalli troviamo nei quarti Andrea Farra che dopo aver eliminato Tomassetti, negli ottavi fa fuori anche il suo “compare” Francesco Raschini (tds 7), Mattia Pini, che supera in due vibranti decider Matteo Di Filippantonio (tds 10) e Claudio Dolcetti (tds 6), e Stefano Marseu, altro giovane di belle speranze, compagno di doppio di Daniele Petri, che supera Riccardo Castelli (tds 15) e Giorgio Campaner, ottimo nono posto il suo.
I quarti di finale sono tutti molto combattuti e vedono lo stop di tre lombardi terribili: Mantarro che cede al compagno di squadra Pinelli, Pini che non può nulla contro Marseu, Trutalli battuto al decider da Farra e poi il veneto Cavaliere che fa sudare le cosiddette sette camicie a Marco Apollonio.
Nella semifinale tutta Friuli Venezia Giulia Andrea Farra fa valere l’esperienza e conquista l’ultimo atto battendo per 5-2 Stefano Marseu che sicuramente farà parlare di sé nel prossimo futuro; nell’altra semifinale avviene, forse, il vero miracolo di Mattia Pinelli che, sotto due volte (1-3 e 3-4) riesce sempre a rimontare il suo più noto avversario, Apollonio, riuscendo poi a sfoderare una splendida 14 darter nel decider, che sorprende il piemontese, e grazie alla quale conquista la finalissima.
L’ultimo atto, assolutamente inedito, vede una gran partenza di Andrea Farra che prende subito il vantaggio arrivando al 2-0, al 3-1 e poi al 4-1 in suo favore che sembra avere già il sapore della sconfitta per il giovane Pinelli il quale, però, dal sesto leg in poi cambia marcia e inizia un cammino impressionante che lo porta sul 4-4; nel nono leg il nervosismo prevale e Farra manca ben sei frecce per portare a casa il leg che invece è appannaggio di Pinelli al doppio 1, viatico assoluto per la 17 darter finale grazie alla quale riesce a trionfare 6-4 per un’incredibile successo del suo primo Campionato Italiano assoluto, dopo tante vittorie nei tornei giovanili.
